LearnDash LMS 5.2.2: enrollment is different from progress

LearnDash is a WordPress learning management system for organizing courses and their learning steps. We used the supplied 5.2.2 package to create a closed two-lesson course and answer three practical questions: can an unenrolled person access it, can a learner skip the first step, and does finishing the last lesson actually complete the course?

The test combines native enrollment and progression calls with a real subscriber session. The learner had no administrator privileges. After the first lesson was completed through the native API, the browser showed 50% progress; the learner then completed the second lesson with its actual Mark Complete button. A separate native check confirmed the final completion was stored.

The course uses short synthetic text, no video, no quiz, no assignment and no timer. We linked both lessons through LearnDash’s native course-steps model. This isolates enrollment and step ordering from unrelated payment, video hosting or quiz configuration.

A fresh CLI activation did not yet have the activity tables required for a clean test. Opening the real WordPress administration completed LearnDash’s native database setup. We then reset only the synthetic learner’s course progress, removed the test enrollment and reran the functional exercise. The published observations are from the clean run after those tables existed, not the preliminary setup errors.

If you automate a new installation, verify that its native database setup is complete before using developer APIs. A missing activity table is an installation issue to resolve; suppressing its error and treating activation alone as a successful LMS test would hide an incomplete environment.

A closed course denied enrollment-free access

Native course access evaluation
Learner stateObserved access
Before explicit enrollmentfalse
After explicit enrollmenttrue

The same synthetic subscriber was evaluated before and after enrollment through LearnDash’s native access function. We changed the learner’s course access using the plugin’s own enrollment function. The closed enrollment mode keeps admission separate from lesson completion; publishing the course does not by itself enroll every visitor.

Logged-out LearnDash course view shows Not Enrolled, Closed and unavailable lesson indicators
Original unauthenticated WordPress view inside the protected lab. The course overview remains visible while learning access is unavailable.

The public course overview showing a title and syllabus is not the same as permission to consume each lesson. In this fixture the overview explicitly displayed Not Enrolled and This course is currently closed. We do not describe that overview as a hidden page or claim that every course mode behaves this way.

The second lesson could not be completed before the first

Native linear progression checks
CheckpointObserved result
First lesson can be completedtrue
Second can be completed before firstfalse
First lesson marked completetrue
Second can be completed after firsttrue
Entire course complete after first onlyfalse

The useful boundary is the transition. Before the first step was complete, the native can-complete check rejected completion of the second. After marking the first complete through the ordinary native method, the same check allowed the second. We did not set a force-completion flag or rewrite progress metadata to manufacture that result.

Demo Learner course view shows 50 percent complete with the first lesson completed and the second not started
Real subscriber view after the first native completion: the course is In Progress and the second lesson remains unfinished.

The official guide distinguishes linear and free-form progression and notes that open courses behave differently. Our course is closed with explicit enrollment, so it exercises the logged-in linear workflow. It does not prove prerequisites, quizzes or timers work merely because a course setting says Linear.

The real student button took the course to 100%

We logged in as Demo Learner and opened the second lesson using its normal course-linked URL. The page displayed the synthetic lesson text, In Progress and a Mark Complete button. Clicking that button completed the step. Returning to the course overview showed 100% Complete, a Complete status and completed indicators for both lessons.

This separates three things often confused during LMS setup: enrollment grants course access, step ordering controls what may be completed next, and final progress records whether the course is complete. An administrator’s ability to edit a lesson is not evidence that a subscriber can access or finish it.

Install, configure and reproduce in staging

  • Install the main LearnDash LMS 5.2.2 ZIP in a disposable WordPress staging environment and allow its native administration/database setup to finish.
  • Create a closed course with two published lessons, put them in the intended order with the native builder, and enable linear progression.
  • Create a subscriber test user. Verify access before enrollment, enroll the user, then verify access again.
  • Check that the first step can be completed and the second cannot yet be completed. Complete the first step and repeat the second-step check.
  • Log in as the subscriber, inspect the 50% course overview, then complete the final lesson with the actual button and verify the stored 100% result.

The reproduction fixture uses native post, enrollment and course-step APIs and contains an explicit staging guard. It creates only synthetic learning content and a disposable subscriber. Its generated test password is not published. The results JSON records the measured booleans and IDs; it is not a LearnDash course import file.

The All Addons archive contains 45 selected component archives from the dated GPLHub product listing. Its inventory describes the actual included files, not every extension ever sold for LearnDash. Extract the outer archive and install only individual extensions needed by your own course. None of those extensions was activated for this exercise.

Choose an LMS for the workflow you actually need

This test establishes a small local course workflow, not a complete training platform evaluation. We did not test paid enrollment, recurring subscriptions, quizzes, pass marks, certificates, video completion, assignments, groups, external integrations, emails, accessibility across every template or any add-on.

If your content is a public set of articles without enrollment or learning-state requirements, a normal blog or documentation site may be sufficient. If you need structured progression, verify the exact student journey, including failed and returning learners, before using an LMS for a real program. The two-lesson fixture provides a starting point rather than a certification of all those workflows.

The package record concerns supplied version 5.2.2 and the local test on 17 October 2026. We do not assert that it is the newest vendor release or that this test validates every vendor release-note item. A replacement ZIP must receive its own hash and relevant repeat checks.

LearnDash LMS Nulled FAQ

“Nulled” usually describes software whose activation or licence checks have been removed or altered; the word alone does not determine whether a particular use is lawful. GPL-covered code can be studied, modified and redistributed subject to its licence conditions, but this does not grant access to a developer’s account, hosted services, updates or support. We discuss the term here to answer a common search question; the download details separately identify the package source and tested version. Any plugin or theme obtained through an unverified third party can contain unwanted changes or malicious code, whether or not it is labelled “nulled”. Before installing it, you can ask ChatGPT or Claude Code to inspect the extracted source for suspicious behaviour without executing it or sharing credentials. Treat that review as an additional check: AI can miss harmful code or flag harmless code, and a clean result is not a security guarantee.

Does receiving the ZIP grant hosted services, updates or support? No. This page records the third-party package and local observations. Developer accounts and subscription services remain separate.

Why use a subscriber instead of the administrator to check learning progress? Administrative access can bypass ordinary learner restrictions. The browser captures here identify Demo Learner, a synthetic subscriber, for the progress and completion checks.

Does a Closed course hide its overview? Not in our fixture. The overview and syllabus were visible, while the enrollment state showed that learning access was unavailable.

Were quizzes or all 45 add-ons tested? No. The functional exercise contains two text lessons. The add-on list is an archive inventory, not a compatibility report.
